Our services are Nurse-led by Managing Director, Stephanie Cotterell RGN RM PgDip MEWI, Registered Manager, Charlotte Barber BSc (hons) (SCPHN) RNLD RMA and Nurse Advisors, Joanne Brown RN (Child) and Mandy Nevin RGN RM.

The viability and governance of our business activities is directed and overseen by our Financial Director, Andy Cotterell MBA MIIA ICSA.

We work with associate professionals from the wider multidisciplinary team and we recognise, understand and welcome the importance of a cohesive and collaborative approach. We have a broad knowledge base in areas that are directly and indirectly associated with care delivery including, but not limited to, the use of clinical and assistive equipment, specialist accommodation and transport, therapeutic and leisure activities, and specialist holidays.

We have a proven track record as a well-respected provider of independent care needs assessments and technical reports which are requested by Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and are accepted by the Court in legal proceedings. We believe that our recognised expertise in this area informs and enhances our practice as a care provider.

Meet the team

STEPHANIE COTTERELL RGN, RM, PgDip, MEWI
Managing Director

AT WORK: Stephanie has worked in healthcare since 1987.  As a Registered Nurse and Midwife, she has worked in hospital settings and in the community. She has also been an expert witness providing independent advice to lawyers about the care needs of children and adults with complex needs.  Stephanie is proud to lead a management team who are as committed as she is about delivering outstanding care services. She is the Nominated Individual for First Person Complex Care and is responsible for overseeing the appropriate management of regulated activities.

AT HOME: Stephanie is married to Andy and they live with their dog, Mabel on Cannock Chase, where Mabel enjoys taking them both for long and frequently muddy walks. They have a grown-up son who has been away to university and is now back home and a daughter who is still at university but comes home regularly. So, the house is usually busy with family, friends and dogs, which is just how we like it! Stephanie mostly enjoys baking, reading and spending time with family and friends. Time permitting, she enjoys going to the theatre, going out to enjoy good food, drink with family and friends and travelling, especially to Spain and Italy. She has been intending to learn to play the ukulele for several years and has been trying to finish a cross-stitch cushion for even longer. More recently, she has been determined to learn how to crochet with the intention of crocheting an entire nativity set (including camels and a stable!) – watch this space for news of any progress…

ANDY COTTERELL MBA, MIIA, ACIS
Financial Director

AT WORK: Andy has a professional background in Risk Management and Internal Audit and as a qualified Auditor and Company Secretary. Andy oversees all the financial, risk management, corporate governance and operational management functions at First Person Complex Care.

AT HOME: Andy is chief dog walker and, therefore, Mabel’s best friend! He enjoys watching, but sadly no longer playing, a variety of sports. Andy has been a lifelong Wolves fan and has indoctrinated his son over the years.  They now watch together with equal passion and despair dependent on the outcome!  Having developed a taste for the finer things in life and following a trip to Scotland that included a number of distillery tours, he now has a growing collection of quality single malt whisky.

CHARLOTTE BARBER BSc (hons) (SCPHN), RNLD, RMA
Level 5 Registered Manager

AT WORK: Charlotte is a Registered Learning Disability Nurse and a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. She has extensive leadership and management experience within social care and as the Registered Manager of First Person Complex Care she is responsible for the day to day management and ongoing development of the service. Charlotte is a truly impressive Manager who is passionate about high quality, person-centred approaches to care.

AT HOME: Charlotte lives in Newcastle Under Lyme with her husband, two young children and her very greedy beagle, Florence.  Charlotte loves her music and is a huge fan of James Blunt, in addition to her passion for Trance Music. Charlotte enjoys family days out, researching, walking, trance nights and the sunshine! Charlotte can also often be found chasing Florence around the house and garden with stolen items of food!

MANDY NEVIN RGN RM
Nurse Advisor

AT WORK: Mandy has a really diverse background and extensive experience of nursing and midwifery practice in a variety of hospital and community settings spanning more than 30 years. She is responsible for policy development and is actively involved with training and recruitment of nursing and care staff for First Person Complex Care. Mandy leads by example and is an energetic and inspirational leader and trainer.

AT HOME: Mandy has two dogs Finn and Meg; they are so naughty they are walked by her husband, Ernie. Mandy has a long list of things she enjoys doing – some are really exciting like getting up to mischief with her grandson, but she also likes doing serious things like studying ancient history.

JOANNE BROWN RN (Child) 
Nurse Advisor

AT WORK: Jo is a very experienced, clinically capable Paediatric Nurse. She has worked in hospital and community settings and has had extensive experience of leading and managing complex care packages in family homes. Jo is an expert witness and she advises exclusively on cases involving children and young adults with complex care needs. She also provides case management services. In addition to her expert witness and case management caseload, Jo is involved with clinical policy development and with training and recruitment of nursing and care staff for First Person Complex Care.

AT HOME: Jo enjoys a relatively quiet life with her husband, two children and their mischievous, but handsome dog, Buddy. Jo and her family enjoy taking long walks with Buddy and at weekends will enjoy time together as a family socially or going out with friends. Each week is spent watching Jo’s eldest daughter playing football and in the Winter months, the remainder of the weekend is spent defrosting! Jo loves music and has recently introduced her girls to George Ezra where they enjoyed their first concert. You can often find Jo with a stash of chocolate or biscuits in her office, as they are a must! 

RACHEL HAMILTION
Office Manager

AT WORK: Rachel is our Office Manager and PA to the Directors. Rachel has worked for us for over four years. Rachel’s professional background has always involved Law, having been a Paralegal for 17 years. 

AT HOME: Rachel has a 10-year old daughter who takes up most of her spare time. Rachel has recently found the time to take up Salsa lessons which she is thoroughly enjoying even though she always proclaims to have two left feet! She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking and has an unusual affinity for pickled onion Monster Munch!

BRANDON McLAUGHLIN
Medico-legal Secretary

AT WORK: Brandon is an experienced legal secretary and administrator who has been with the company for over three years. She is our Social Media Wizard. Brandon has experience in a number of legal fields and has previously worked in the UK and Canada, as well as in Germany as part of H.M. Forces Legal Services.

AT HOME: Brandon keeps busy outside of the office by working towards her degree in Social Psychology, teaching Zumba classes, going to the gym, playing rugby, spending time with her husband, Chris and playing taxi to her three sons. Brandon also enjoys cooking, travel and shouting at the television while she watches Andy Murray play tennis!

MEGAN COTTERELL
Office Junior (extended work placement)

AT WORK: Megan is currently in the third and final year of her marketing degree. She works once a week and helps with the production of our marketing and in-house training material as well as making the tea and coffee!

AT HOME: Megan was a keen ballet dancer when she was younger and now keeps fit doing yoga and going to the gym. She has a busy social life which constantly involves food and drinks and she enjoys everything from going to festivals and raves to afternoon teas and bottomless brunches. She is partial to Karaoke and Rock DJ by Robbie Williams is her song of choice. She enjoys travelling and enjoyed spending time as a volunteer in Sri Lanka, and she has a secret wish to keep Llamas.

MABEL THE SCHNAUZER
Office Mascot / Security

AT WORK: Mabel occasionally visits the office to check on the team. Her first point of call is Rachel’s wastepaper bin where she has learnt that’s where the empty Monster Munch packets live! She generally causes chaos and her visits are short and eventful.  She is not an effective security guard and would really rather play!

AT HOME: At home Mabel enjoys squirrel watching and can spend many hours patrolling the garden trying to catch one of her furry visitors. When she is not ‘on duty’ Mabel mostly enjoys eating pigs’ ears and sleeping by the Aga with a large Eeyore toy she acquired as a puppy.
